I write like Stephen King ???

Hello.

I came across this nifty online service which purports to analyze your writing style and compares that to famous authors. It works like this, you input a paragraph or two in to the website and it will supposedly tell you who you write like. Sounds fun, right? Yes!

Naturally, it irked my curiosity. I had to give it a go. I copy pasted an article from this blog. It told me I write like Stephen King. I was shocked. I have read a few books by Mr. King. He is a great story teller. One of the best science fiction writers. I can not possibly be writing like him. So, I tried again. Same result. I think my abuse of ellipsis is confusing the analytical process used by this service.

So, I threw in one of the recent posts on this blog. You will notice that the later posts have somewhat a different writing style. This time the name Cory Doctorow came up and I drew a blank.

Well, to be honest, I have not heard of Mr. Doctorow and had to google him. Turns out,  according to wikipedia, he is a very famous Canadian blogger, journalist, and science fiction author who serves as co-editor of the blog Boing Boing. Well then, I guess I didn't do that bad.

These kinds of "Which/What are you?" services are fun, but really meaningless. Always limited to a predetermined list of answers. Answers should not be taken seriously at all. But try it out. Do tell who you write like.

Laterx.

if each post is different ... am guessing that you have different styles when writing about different subjects depending on the emo factor ... hehe ...

I posted my latest blog post ("Vague statements can mean only one thing...") and it turned out I write like Dan Brown ("Da Vinci Code") LOL

Thanks for sharing. Was fun -- and very useful to self-analyze hehe

Dan Brown eh ???
I've read most of his work ... I enjoyed most ... He is a successful novelist ...
I wonder why the language critics dont like him ...
I read an article in which a language "pro" dissects/analyze the hell out the 1st para of Da Vinci Code ...
The language critics sure do not like Mr. Brown !!!

Doyle..Sir Arthur Conan doyle. Not surprising since I read almost all of his books while growing up. I didn't realize that it had such a profound influence on me.

The problem with Mr.Brown's is that his writings suggest the we (the readers) are complete idiots. It may perhaps be appealing for a ten year old when he describes the same thing over and over again. While I do not question his success, I do however feel the need here to express my dislike for the mans work. I say this in spite of having read all his books in rapid succession.

Coolio! Loved trying this out!
I found myself in ieccco's position when I used the tool. Different writers for different posts posted on two very different blogs of mine. I guess I tend to change my writing style based on what I am writing ei?
Was fun! Thanks for sharing ;)

So apparently, according to my last blog post, I write like Chuck Palahniuk. :S I'm wondering if that's a compliment to me or an insult to Chuck Palahniuk.
