Don't Let Go ...

Don't turn on me!
You know how things tends to go wrong at the worst possible moment. Hopefully, these kinds of locks and safety mechanisms will minimize those.
This was an old, almost abandoned cement mixing machine I saw on the side of the street near a construction site.

Learner's Driving School ...

Learner's Driving School! Is there any other kind of driving schools?
Wonder why I see a lot of ladies learning to drive these day. Women are taking the initiative to learn to drive to get their kids to school while their husbands are away at work, maybe? Good for them. They say women are usually bad drivers, especially when parellel parking. I say they can do anything as good as us guys can do.

A Japanese tourist takes a picture of her friends in front of the grand FrIday Mosque.
Is it only me, or Japanese takes a lot of pictures. Almost all the Japanese tourists I see in the capital city has at least one camera with them. Sometimes, I see they have more one camera. A Canon/Nikon still camera and JVC or SONY video camera. Got to love those Japanese tech stuff.

Writing Dhivehi/Thaana on a Mac ...

Hello …
I've been on the Mac for a few years now …
And I have used a Mac exclusively for two …
When I first contemplated getting a Mac …
People told me how unintuitive it would be …
Since we are all so used to Windows ...
And that I won't be able to get softwares for it …
Well … guess what … I'm still on the Mac …
And its the one of the best decisions I've made …
I admit it takes a few days to get accustomed to …
But after that … its a breeze to use … no problems …
Also the argument about not getting software …
Well I've been able to get any I wanted … google :)
For me … anything I could ever do on Windows …
I can do it on the Mac … more easily most of the time …
In all these years I've been using the Mac …
I always wanted to be able to write Dhivehi/Thaana …
I knew there were ways/workarounds …
But I never got around to doing it … until today …
I followed this guide over at Shahdy's blog
It explains in detail what one has to do …
And even links to the software needed …
Downloading and configuring took a few mins …
And now … I can write Dhivehi/Thaana on my Mac …
Nothing to it really … it was very simple …
So if you use a Mac … head over to Shahdy's blog …
And set up you machine to write Dhivehi/Thaana …
It'll save you a lot if time searching google :)
Laterx …

A Happy Shopkeeper ...

A happy shopkeeper, indeed!
A shopkeeper at local tuckshop smiles at the camera. The law says that only a Maldivian local can man a cash register, but as we can see here, the law is not always followed. monitored or enforced. Most of the shops, and cafés I go to have expatriates serving us, with no Maldivian locals in sight. This is not without reason either. Most of the business try hard to get local Maldivians to come work with them, but they just don't find qualified local staff, and even if they manage to find a few, they just dont stick around for long.
I hope this changes soon. Expatriates won't do our work for us forever, nor can we afford to import foreign labor without economic and social consequences.

Russian tourist Couple ...

Russians!
A tourist couple walks around the capital city. Most of the tourist in the capital these days seem to be from big ships and cruise liners visiting the city.country. They only stay a couple of days. But you can see a lot of tourist coming in to the island harbor in small boats few days a week. Tourist guides here in Malé take them around the city, showing them tourist attractions and may be some restaurants. Good business, I guess. Thank you for visiting!
