Felled … (sigh) !!!

After a long day at work …
Was walking towards a coffee shop …
Along Ameer Ahmed Magu …
I saw an uprooted tree trunk …
Amidst a flood lit construction site …
It not unusual to see a tree being felled …
But this was different …
Allow me to be a bit nostalgic here …
This was the tree that we all remember …
The huge mango tree(s?) in Velaanaage …
The same tree that we saw each day …
On the way or way back from …
School … work … or a coffee …
Or a segued ride thru male …
I dunno why … but I suddenly felt weird …
Seeing the huge tree uprooted … obliterated …
And being loaded on to a big truck … piece by piece …
Kinda had taken for granted that …
That this tree would be there for us … forever …
Reminding us of our childhood …
Reminding us of the afternoons we spent …
Throwing sticks and shoes up at the mangoes …
To make one or two fall … just one more …
The precipitous walls and trunks we used to climb …
Kinda feel funny now… seeing no tree there … no more …
And when you look at lane that was shaded by the tree …
You can feel the lack of that tree … so incongruously …
It was kind of a landmark or something v don't you think ???
Guess nothing last for ever v some not even for a lifetime …
Guess it's a price we've to pay … for development …
Another one hits the dust … and so it goes …

You're right. The trees were probably over 50 years old?

Sometimes we have to get rid of the old to make way for the new. Wish we could say the same about our government.

Mango trees may reach 100 ft tall and live well over 100 years, the building in construction will reach 150 ft and live well over 130 years.
